UPDATE

There has been an updated province-wide text message indicating there is no threat at the Pickering nuclear power plant.

Resident across Ontario received a text message alert by the Ontario government Sunday indicating there was an incident at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station in Pickering Ontario. This issue prompted a mass mobile alert message to people as far away as Toronto.

The province said an incident was reported at the station, off of Montgomery Park Road in Pickering, sometime on Sunday and emergency crews are now at the power plant.

The text message indicated there has been no abnormal release of radioactive energy from the station and that people living near the station do not need to take any extra protective measures at the moment.
