A 58-year-old man is facing 19 charges after a luxury home in Burlington was raided by heavily-armed Halton police tactical officers and a well-known restaurant was shut down in an incident that left neighbours in shock.
The alleged crimes, Halton police say, have been taking place since 2006 as members of the force’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit, with help from tactical and additional investigative officers and police dogs, conducted the raids Friday and made an arrest.
Mohan “Jarry” Ahlowalia, 58, is charged with seven counts of assault, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, uttering threats and a rash of human trafficking and firearms charges.
Police say the accused man goes by a number of aliases, including: Gerry Aholowalia, Jarry Mohan Aholowalia, Jarry A’Walia, Mohan Ahuwalia and others.
Investigators believe there are community members who may have additional information pertaining to this investigation, Const. Ryan Anderson said in a news release.
Anderson confirmed the arrest and charges are in relation to the heavy presence in a Burlington neighbourhood Friday as heavily armed tactical officers raided a luxury home on Mount Nemo Crescent and a nearby restaurant called Wundeba, which has been closed.
A number of items were removed from both properties.
Anderson said he couldn’t get into specifics due to the ongoing investigation but said in the release that “Victims of violence and/or sexual assault and witnesses are encouraged to contact the Halton Regional Police Service.”
